1957 Olympia SM3 - Italic Typeface
If you’ve ever heard me talk about typewriters, you almost certainly have heard me go on and on about how wonderful the Olympia typewriters are. This machine is the perfect representation of why it’s regarded so highly
The engineers in Germany clearly knew what they were doing when the built these typewriters. Not only did they create one of the quickest, most consistent, and easy to use machines, they made them to l a s t. Everything on the typewriter feels high quality, and it seems like every little piece was made with deep thought towards the user.
It’s a snappy and responsive machine. It doesn’t require a heavy touch, and the carriage shift is incredibly lightweight and easy to use. Each one of the keytops has a spring loaded mechanism inside to make the typewriter even softer on your fingers. It gives each snap of the key an extra cushion at the bottom. My arthritic hands love this!
The deep forest green crinkle paint is absolutely beautiful, and well accented by the even deeper green keys. The typeface, Italic Elite No.89. In my personal opinion, Italic is the classiest typeface you can find on these Olympias.
It’s as clean as can be. The machine was disassembled and chemically cleaned to remove any old lubrication, dust, eraser shavings, etc. As a collector, I really am a fan of this generation of Olympias. I’ve had dozens pass through my hands throughout the years, and consistently pick mine off the shelf when it’s time to write a letter, fill out a form, or declare revolution.
This is the perfect gift for a writer, journalist, or typewriter collector! You are buying a fully functional machine which has been professionally serviced. I’ve shipped hundreds of typewriters across the globe, and I promise I will take every precaution I can, to ensure your new typewriter arrives safely at your door!
