While the Remington Standard is an extremely well known typewriter, with nine different understrike models. Hundreds of thousands were manufactured between the late 1870’s and into the beginning of the 20th century. The Model 4 is one of the most scarce models of the lineup.

The Remington No.4 is most easily recognized by the oversized platen, reminiscent of the Sholes & Glidden, (Remington No.1). This machine also features an all caps typeface.

The Remington 4 was put onto the market in 1878, anf first sold as The Remington Perfected No.4. These early machines have no identifying graphics or logos, only pinstripes. Estimated production is between 4,000, and 5,000, based off known serial numbers
